2023 – A Look Back on the Year
Here at The Licensing Guys ™ we pride ourselves on our success rate in applications and Hearings.
Our website shows we have a 98.4% success rate. This isn’t strictly true. In 2023 we have not lost a case or failed to have an application granted, so in truth we have a 100% record of success. Although we have a few weeks left in the year, we have handled around 250 cases across the UK and have obtained the grant of around 120 NEW Premises Licences. We have trained literally hundreds of Personal Licence Holders and physically obtained Personal Licences for many of those through our bespoke Application Service.
You may (or may not) think this a great achievement, requiring almost legendary levels of licensing litigation. In truth, that is not the case. Our success is based on a very simple founding principle – we will not take on a case which we do not completely believe that we will win. We do not take on cases where people have been silly, have knowingly sold dodgy cigarettes and vapes, have carelessly and recklessly sold alcohol to children or have deliberately employed staff whom they know have no right to work in the UK. In the vast majority of cases, we send these clients on to solicitors which we trust to give them a good representation in Court.
The Licensing Guys ™ have progressed from solely performing small client work to providing services to large operations, such as the Grosvenor Group in London, or training for the Cooperative at regional level, or to members of trade bodies such as Wine GB, the Association of Convenience Stores, Three Counties Cider & Perry Association, and National Pubwatch. We love to continue to provide services to small independent operators, but the nature and volume of the work has caused us to expand our team to three Licence Builders, two Advocates and two Sales and Office Team, all covering the entire UK. We are looking to expand further early in 2024.
