Premises Licence Application

Premises Licence Application – Price Guide

Applying for a Premises Licence in England and Wales involves both council fees and optional professional support.

The application fee itself is set by the local council and depends on the business rateable value of your premises.

Council Application Fees (Based on Rateable Value)

Band Rateable Value Application Fee
A £0 – £4,300 £100
B £4,301 – £33,000 £190
C £33,001 – £87,000 £315
D £87,001 – £125,000 £450
E Over £125,000 £635

Note: If your premises primarily sell alcohol (e.g. pubs or bars), higher fees may apply:

Band D: £900

Band E: £1,905

You can check your property’s rateable value on the UK Government website or we can check it for you.

Additional Costs Involved:

While the council fee is fixed, other costs may apply depending on your needs:

  • Advertising the application through Legal Notices in the Newspapers and posted to the building.
  • Professional Plans and Drawings.
  • Professional support in liaising with the Responsible Authorities and any Objectors.

The Licensing Guys charge flat fees for these additional costs of:

£400 – Legal Notices.  On rare occasions, newspapers can charge considerably more.

£995 – Our Professional Fee

VAT is charged on the two above constituents, but not on Council Fees.

What is the Usual Cost?

Most premises fall within Band B.  Therefore the price you pay for an average application will be:

Council Application Fee £190
Legal Notices £400
Our Professional Fees £995
VAT £280
Total £1865

What happens if people object?

However, as above, there is on average a 17% chance that your application might only be resolved at a Hearing despite our best efforts to negotiate an outcome which suits all parties.  The Licensing Guys charge a fee to appear at a Hearing on your behalf.
