We can’t recommend The Licensing Guys enough. Particular shout out to Nick and Reba! As a new women bar and creative venue in Shoreditch, the alcohol licensing process was daunting - but these legends made it seamless. They supported us through both our initial premises license and a tricky variation, handling everything with razor-sharp expertise and a genuinely personable approach.
They’re fast, clear, always a step ahead, and somehow make legal bureaucracy feel manageable (dare we say… even easy?). It’s rare to find a team that’s this efficient and this human. If you’re opening a venue, save yourself the headache and get them on board immediately. Worth every penny and more.

We engaged The Licensing Guys to support us in securing an Event Premise License, and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better team. The great news - we won!
From start to finish, their entire team, from the administrative staff to the licensing agents, demonstrated outstanding professionalism and expertise. They clearly know their stuff. They went above and beyond in guiding us through the process, taking time to clearly explain the relevant legislation and helping us address the representations raised.
On a personal note, working with Reba and Nick was an absolute pleasure. Their calm, confident approach and genuine support made a potentially stressful experience smooth and successful.

KNOW YOUR FACTS
If you wish to sell alcoholic drinks you will need a licence. There are two types of licence: premises licences and personal licences. It is illegal to buy alcohol from a wholesaler who is not registered.

This qualification is aimed at anyone who wishes to work in licensed premises where alcohol is sold. You will look at licensing authorities; at the responsibilities of the personal license holder; police powers; rights of entry; specific prohibitions; strengths of alcoholic drinks; responsible retail of alcohol; and the protection of children from harm.
On completion of this course, candidates will hold a licensing qualification with which they can apply for the Personal Licence.
Anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to the public (as per the legal requirement in England and Wales) is required to have a suitable qualification.
A full variation of a premises licence for alcohol involves making significant changes to an existing licence, potentially impacting the licensing objectives. These changes typically include extending licensing hours, altering the premises layout, or adding new licensable activities.
A minor variation licence allows for small, non-substantial changes to an existing premises license or club premises certificate without requiring a full variation application. These changes typically involve minor adjustments to the layout, operating hours (excluding alcohol sales hours), or removal of outdated conditions. The process is designed to be quicker, easier, and cheaper than a full variation.
